Have a Safe and Connected Easter Holiday

Have a Safe and Connected Easter Holiday

What a term! It has been a new experience for all of us. When training as a teacher, I certainly didn’t anticipate a time when I would see remote learning delivered to an entire school community.

I want to thank you for your support at this time. I am listening to your feedback - that it is difficult for our parents to facilitate remote learning at times while working yourselves or juggling other family responsibilities. I hear you and I want you to know that I am committed to supporting you, as we continue on this journey together.

Many of you completed the remote learning survey, and I am grateful for your feedback. We have now compiled the responses and shared these with our teachers and will be working on implementing changes. We have also identified families that may need additional remote learning support. We aim to be in contact with these families early next term to ensure that they are receiving the support that they need.

Our Prime Minister indicated that he does not want any children in Australia to miss a year of education. I certainly agree with him and want all students at NAC to have access to many different opportunities to learn. However, we must also balance the wellbeing of our children and their families. If you are finding it difficult, that is understandable. We are trying to maintain normalcy for our students through regular timetables. While learning activities may be communicated via the online learning platform, your child should not be spending the entire school day looking at a screen. They should also be spending time reading books, making music, drawing and being physically active. We recognise that these are exceptional circumstances and encourage you to do what you can manage, but please stay in touch so that we can support you.

I hope that every member of our community has the opportunity to have a break. While we cannot get out and be social or travel, there are opportunities in our homes and with our families, to find relaxation and enjoyment over Easter. If you follow us on Facebook, you’ll see a video of some fun and interesting things that our staff are planning for their holidays.

Easter Chapel

Rev. Josh Murphy, our Assistant Chaplain has provided students with a fantastic Easter Chapel. We have made this available at the following link EasterChapel.mp4 for all families to enjoy over the Easter Break. You might also like to check out some of the local churches who are conducting their services online.

Office Closure

Please note that the College Office will be closed during the school holiday break, from Friday 10th April, and will reopen on Monday 27th April. We are anticipating that we will be continuing with remote learning during Term 2, however, we will keep you updated as we receive more information.

Student Wellbeing

There are some great resources available to help with mental wellbeing during these unusual times. ReachOut Australia has compiled a list of wellbeing apps that your child might like to check out. Students can also take the quiz! If you are worried about your child's wellbeing please remember that you can always reach out to your child's Classroom Teacher (Junior School), Homeroom Teacher (Senior School) or the Wellbeing Team via wellbeing@nac.nsw.edu.au.

For self-isolation holidays

Just because we can’t travel, visit new and interesting places in person, or experience live performance in these Autumn holidays, doesn’t mean we have to miss out! There are a number of destinations and venues providing virtual experiences. Here are a few that you might like to check out:

NEW School bus delivery service

Our College bus services from Nowra Coaches, Shoalbus, Stuart’s and Kennedy’s will be providing our school community with the opportunity to use the regular school bus services as a means of delivering documentation between our College and students/carers. A transport box marked Nowra Anglican College will be inside each school bus, to transfer documentation and other related schoolwork between the College and our students/carers. The system will operate as follows:

Students/carers wishing to forward documentation or other relevant items to the College can meet the bus in the morning at the normal location and time to place this documentation in the box marked with the College name. Please email office@nac.nsw.edu.au before placing items on the bus so that the staff can expect your delivery.

A staff member will meet the bus when it arrives at the College to transfer the box to the office where documentation will be distributed to the relevant staff members.

In the afternoon, a staff member will return the box to the bus and students/carers can meet the bus at the normal drop off location and time to pick up items. Teachers will email students if they need to collect any items from the bus. Thank you to our bus companies for this fantastic new service!

My prayer for our community is a safe and connected Easter.

Kind Regards

Lorrae Sampson Principal
